What started as an information has spread like a fire and TRAI is bombarded with millions of emails in what has been called the #MillionMailMission to protect net neutrality.
Around 50 emails per minute are hitting the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
“It is the largest ever campaign conducted in this country within the shortest span of time — just over 10 days,” said Bangalore based Kiran Jonnalagadda, one of the volunteers believed to be driving force of the online crusade.
The emails are in response to TRAI seeking public opinion on its proposal to allow the country’s telecom-cum-internet provider to charge differently for different uses of data. This includes different rates for email or internet browsing and use of apps like Whatsapp, Viber and Skype.
Net neutrality revolution is an initiative where the data on the internet should be treated equally irrespective of the site, content, platform and application.
