Meditation is not merely an activity- it is an essential practice for mental hygiene. As we exercise and follow a certain set of rules for our daily hygiene and health, mental health is essential as well. According to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, is not concentration, it is de-concentration. The well-rested one feels after meditation, is very similar to the rest after a deep sleep of about 10-12 hours. Meditation helps the mind be free of agitation, makes it calm, serene and at peace.
The stress, hectic work pressure, lifestyle and the demands of the modern life, we are all left over-worked, stressed and basically without a family life. Sometimes, the 24 hours of the day start feeling less and we all hope to have some more hours attached into our clocks.
The stress and tiredness make us irritated, depressed, impatient, lonely, unhappy, and frustrated. It most often affects our health and we get so busy that we feel there is hardly any time left for other things- let alone exercise. But, it is quite essential to spend some time meditating- atleast for 10-15 minutes in a calm and open atmosphere making us feel cool, calm and composed.
It teaches us on how to focus on the brighter side of things- not to panic, and to start thinking of solution that does exist, instead of panicking and thinking of all the negative prospective things that could happen, meditation helps us in focussing on the problem in hand and the solutions that can be applied to it. It helps transforms our mind from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy, and cultivating practical thoughts.
The benefits of meditation are multifarious, but only with regular practise one can reap benefits. A calm, composed, clarity, observation, communication, and essentially unshakeable inner strength, relaxation, rejuvenation, and mental freshness are all associated with regular meditation.
