Syria, a war torn country has seen many of its people taking a refuge at other countries- for the welfare of their families. Similarly, a group of few refugees arrived at Canada, few weeks ago being sponsored to live in Canada by businessman Jim Estill, who is personally footing the bill of more than a million Canadian dollars (£588,000/$764,000) so they can claim asylum.
Such is the story of Ibrahim Halil Dudu, who came to Canada, just 4 days earlier but was instrumental in saving the day of a Canadian Bride, Jo Du. While, a bridesmaids started up the zip on her dress, it broke- now, who would want that on their wedding day? As Jo started panicking, Ibrahim, who stayed next door at the basement of David Hobson, the Ontario man who had opened his own doors – and renovated his basement – to Ibrahim and his family so they could have a home; didn’t hesitate to help and swiftly came appeared with his sewing kit.
“Within few minutes he had sewn the dress – and it looked just as good as before,” recalled wedding photographer Lindsay Coulter, who captured the moment with her camera.
“Every weekend I take photos of people on the happiest days of their lives, and today one man who has seen some of the worst things our world has to offer came to the rescue,’ she wrote in a post liked more than 22,000 times since 26 September.
It is people like Ibrahim, who teach us what feelings and humanity are. Escaping form a war-torn country, to an entirely different country where he cannot communicate in English, his actions have taught us that feelings and actions are mightier than language and humanity doesn’t have any boundaries or script- it is simply shown in our eyes and actions.
