Alopecia, or hair loss is quite prevalent among the youth now-a-days. With changing lifestyle, improper diet, junk food, improper sleep and depression, there is hardly any time left for taking proper care for hairs. Hair loss not only affects women, it is also a cause of primary concern for men. Although, for most of them, hair loss is hereditary, for many, it might be due to hormonal imbalances, insufficient blood circulation, nutritional deficiency, and the like.
Let’s have a look at various types of hair loss:
1. Alopecia Areata:
Caused due to an autoimmune disease like Down’s syndrome or overactive thyroid, it causes a patches of hairless ness as large as coin- either on scalp or also on body.
2. Anagen Effluvium:
Mostly caused due to treatments or side effects of medication, esp. chemotherapy.
3. Pattern Baldness:
The most common type of baldness, it follows a pattern of receding hairline, then the thinning of the hair on the crown and temples
4. Scarring Alopecia:
After hair falls, the hair follicle is completely destroyed which causes the hair to not to grow back.
5. Telogen Effluvium:
The most common type of hair loss, where instead of going bald, you observe that your hairs are considerably thinner.
Treatment:
Often times, the hair loss is due to natural process of ageing, and it cannot be treated, and is to be embraced. But other types of hair loss, other than pattern baldness, is a cause for distress and hence should be treated.
You should also remember that losing about 70-100 strands of hair every day is perfectly natural and is not a cause of concern, but when you see a considerable loss of hair or lose more than 100 strands you should start taking a course of action against it.
Home Remedies:
1. Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera is the miracle plant that helps one with almost all the cosmetic problems. It also helps in preventing hair loss and promote healthy hair growth. Either apply aloe gel or juice onto your hairs and scalp for few hours and then rinse. Instead you can also drink 1 Tbsp. Aloe juice on empty stomach every morning for better digestive system and blood circulation.
2. Amla:
Amla is rich in anti-oxidants and vitamin C. Studies show that one can suffer a hair loss also due to deficiency of Vitamin C in the body. Either apply the amla juice directly or mix it with lime juice and coconut oil, and apply gently on your hair. Leave it overnight and shampoo in the morning. It will leave your ahirs feel lighter with a pleasant citrusy fragrance.
3. Beetroot:
Beetroot contains nutrients that are all quite essential for hair growth and hair health. Always include beetroot and spinach in your diet- either in the form of soups or juice or salads. Alternatively, you can apply a paste of beetroot mixed with henna once every month and leave it for about an hour before washing it off. It will help fight against dandruff, excessive oil secretion, hair loss and additionally it will also give beautiful natural tinge to your hairs.
4. Egg White:
Egg white, being rich in protein and vitamins help in nourishing the hairs promoting the strength and shine of your mane. Apply only the egg white on to your hair, or mix it with curd or honey and apply it on your hair and leave it for about an hour and then cleanse. Try this treatment at least once a week.
5. Fenugreek:
Fenugreek is known to repair hair and hair follicle damage. And Soak fenugreek overnight and grind them to make a paste in the morning. Apply the paste on to your scalp and hair and leave it on for about an hour and then rinse. Try following it twice a week or at least once a week regularly.
6. Flax Seeds:
Being rich in Mega 3 fatty acids, flax seeds prevent hair loss and helps promote hair growth. Always include flax seeds in your diet- grind them to a powder and consume it with water in the morning, or you can garnish the ground flax seeds to your salads, soups, smoothies, etc.,
7. Hibiscus:
Hibiscus leaves and flowers are another miracle substance for hair loss and promoting hair growth. These can also be used to prevent dandruff, split ends and premature greying of hairs. Shred the hibiscus flowers and leaves in coconut oil and heat it until the flowers and leaves get charred; strain the oil and apply it every alternate night and rinse in the morning.
8. Curd:
Curd is one of the effective home remedies against dandruff and hair loss. Regularly applying curd will make your hairs strong, soft and shiny and will help fight the sweat odours that very thick hairs have. You can either apply it directly on hairs and scalp or you can mix it with honey and some coconut or olive oil or fenugreek, and apply the mask on your hairs and scalp and leave it for about an hour or so.
9. Warm oil massage:
Regular massaging of oil- olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil, etc., will help against hair fall. These oils are quite useful for strengthening hairs and also prevent breakage of hair due to split ends. Try oil massaging twice a week.
We understand, hairs are the most important part of us, and we cannot tolerate losing them. Hence, we do insist on these home remedies.
