Stressful Job? Be Thankful! It is what makes you Efficient

We all complain about the stress at workplace. Stress can be self-given stress or external stress – by manager or by senior colleagues or by the deadlines. But, dear pals. Fret no more. According to a new study, stressful jobs can be energising and it tends to make you find ways to work around the problems which helps both in the personal and also in the professional lives.

stressful-job1The study conducted by the researchers at the University of Indiana’s Business Schoolfollowed more than 10,000 workers in their sixties since 2004 and they have observed that those who worked in high-stress but low-control jobs were most likely to have died with Cancer being the primary leading reason for their deaths.

Stressful jobs can be energising, but if only one feels to be in control and is involved in the decision of the stress initiator. The benefits? – It helps you concentrate, keeps you alert, improves your efficiency and increases your productivity.

stressful-job2People with demanding jobs and with less/no control over them – are 15% more likely to die early are tend to be obese, overweight or diabetic than those with stressful jobs with control.Workers in more demanding jobs, who felt in control, were 1/3rdless likely to die besides finding stress stimulating factor in every-day life.

“These findings clearly suggest that stressful jobs have high negative impacton employee health with less freedom in decision making.  You can avoid the negative health consequences by allowing people to set their own goals and schedules”  said Professor Gonzalez-Mule, lead author of the study.

stressful-job3However, your ability to deal with stress is also a factor in these situations, as means the difference between success and failure. So, what are the tips in dealing with the stressful times at office?

•    Initiate positive inter-relationships at work
•    Get up and get moving. Do not keep sitting for more than an hour. At least get up to go drink water.
•    Include omega-3 rich fats in your diet
•    Have a proper sleep and never skip breakfast and lunch. Always eat once in 2 hours. Just keep on munching nuts or cookies.
•    Prioritize and organize- this is what actually helps you work.
•    Look for the humor in any bad situation- rather, look for anything positive. Most of the times, you cannot laugh at the bad times. So, be optimistic.

Go ahead and face the workplace heat with renewed outlook and a positive attitude.
