International Women’s Day is a worldwide celebration of a day dedicated especially to women only. This day, March 8th is a reminder of all the problems that a woman faces and overcomes with ease and poise. There are several reasons because of which this day is celebrated throughout the globe. Almost 100 countries celebrate this day and many of us don’t actually understand the real reason behind this global celebration.

Evolutionary History of Global Celebration of Women’s Day
1909
Previously, The Socialist Party of America started celebrating National Women’s Day on February 28th,1909. The day was a celebration to honor the strike of women workers working in a garment sector. The strike took place in the year 1908. The workers union fought against the worse working conditions and better pay.
1911
Later the people of Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland found this concept fascinating and they marked March 19, 1911, as the International Women’s Day. Even until this time, Americans have stick to their date of National Women’s Day celebration.
1913 to 1914
Russian women marked last Saturday of every February as the IWD. This day was chose to protest against the World War I. While European women marched on March 8th to express their unity.
1975
In 1975, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the first female president in the world came into existence. Her selection was an effect of 1975 Icelandic women’s strike. And in the same year, United Nations started celebrating 8th March as the International Women’s Day.
1977
In 1977, United Nations General Assembly celebrated March 8th as International Women’s day with the member states and since then this day has become an official International Women’s Day.
That was how the global celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) has come into existence.
