We all are well aware of our hands being dirty and that is why we need to wash them before we consume anything. The condition worsens at the time of cold and flu season. So, to keep their kids safe from cold and flu, parents have started taking extra strict measures to protect their children. But, a recent science study suggests that if we kill all the tiny organisms (known as microbes) with the help of hand sanitizers or any antibacterial soaps then it will surely affect your children’s health. The study is a strong believer of microbes plays a vital role for children.
Marie-Claire Arrieta, a microbiologist and the co-author of Let Them Eat Dirt: Saving Our Children from an Oversanitized World, claims that keeping children’s away from microbes will have a negative impact on their immune system. Bret Finlay, the co-author of the book who is also an esteemed microbiologist made it very clear that the over-sanitized environment is not healthy for kids. This kind of atmosphere is capable of giving rise to various kind of allergies and even obesity.
According to Arrieta, one of the factors for the development of an infant’s body is the presence of microbes. They are essential for the proper functioning and strengthening of a human immune system. Without the presence of microbes, the immune system of the body won’t be able to fight against any kind of infections. Microbes are capable of producing molecules and those substances which can interact with the lining of human gut and even the other side of the gut. They are trained in that manner only. These microbial substances contain the information of the working of immune cells. Only then, immune cells get the ability to transfer themselves to the other part of the body.
Without the presence of microbial substances, the immune system won’t be able to get trained properly on its own functioning. And that is why microbes are literally good for children.
