Chandigarh faced unexpected rains on Monday morning that lasted for about three hours causing the city to perish and drench in water-logging! Due to poor drainage systems, water clogged in the tricity of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, leaving the vehicles stranded on the roads floating.
A total of 112mm of rainfall was recorded between the time period of 8.30-11.30 on Monday morning. The met department stated that this climate is intended to stay for a couple of days more.
Many vehicles were left stranded on the road and were submerged completely leaving hurdles of traffic in many areas. People are seen walking, with water-level above their knees, pushing other vehciles aside for other vehicles to move, therefore causing minimal blockage.
Long lines of vehicles could be seen at most lightpoints and roundabouts. Movement crept on Madhya Marg, railroad light point, transport lights, Housing Board light point and different territories.
In some areas, the water-logging conditions were so worse, tha tht e traffic police had to divert routes for people to have easier access to roads and not be submerged in water causing heavy-traffic jams. Vehicles were not able cross the street underbridge in the Industrial Area because of the water that had gathered.
In Mohali, Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, there was vehicle overload for over one hour and long lines of vehicles were seen on Airport roads as well.

Chandigarh yet again faces a third time mishap in 2017, as it earlier recorded high amounts of rainfall with the range of 61.55mm in June, 120.88mm in July and 53.1mm in August respectively.
