First thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word south Indian is, “are you a Madrasi?” Dude, why don’t you get , South India does not only mean being a Madrasi but there are other clans as well! North Indians have this very wrong assumption about South Indians in general and people are really sick of hearing them now!
I am also a South Indian and I have also heard these stereotypes during introductions, when I was living in North India. You may think, what is so offensive about the word ‘Madrasi”! But, its the word itself isn’t hostile however what individuals compare to this word is hostile and concludes annoying generalizations.
It might have begun as an ethnic slur to signify individuals from the recent Madras administration. Be that as it may, throughout the years, individuals have framed a clear picture of South Indians which is absurdly irritating, most definitely.
Checkout some of the most stupid and common stereotypes that are really annoying and will make any South Indians blood boil!
1.South Indian= Madrasi!
Whenever you come across a South Indian and you are asked,”are you a Madrasi?”
2.South Indians= Dark And Weird Looking
Many times when I am asked about my folks, people get amused and say, “ Why are you not dark?!”
3.South Indians= Vegetarians
Many people tend to assume South Indians as Brahmans, but what they don’t realize is that they can also be hardcore non-vegetarians. Guys, we also survive on chickens!
4.South Indians= Wear Lungis and Sarees
Usually North Indians think that South Indians wear only Lunigs and Sarees. We also have a fashion sense and we wear ethnic clothes only when we want to! But, don’t you think we guys also look hot in those traditional clothes!
5.South Indians= Long Family Names
Generally, it is assumed that if you are a South Indian then you should have a long name with the entire family clan joined! Surnames are names yaar! What’s so funny about it? 😛
6.South Indians= Conservative People
This is so not true guys! They are not conservative at all! They are cool people just like you and me and our parents are also very happy about love marriages or about our desire to follow our dreams.
7.South Indians= Languages Are The Same
No! There is a huge diffrence between a Tamilian language and a Kannada language. It does not even sound the same.
8.South Indians= Nerds
Thank you for that kind compliment, but we are smart people! Nerd is something that does not sound too good on us! Just because they get higher marks doesn’t mean they are nerds. Ditto! 😛
9.South Indians= Plenty Of Hair Oil and Jasmine Flowers
South Indians love jasmine flowers but, that does not mean they put coatings of hair oil 😛
10.South Indians= Movies Are Pointless
There are few films that can make no sense but, that does not mean all South Indian films are senseless na! BTW, how was Bahubali?! Amazing right?!
