Did you know Lord Hanuman with five faces is known as “Panchmukha”!
Let’s know why he was called so! Its depth lies in history of Ramayan
During the war, Ravan had sought help from Ahiravan, the king of patala (hell) to arrest Ram and Lakshmana. In order to protect his master Ram and Lakshmana, Hanuman had formed a fortress with his tail.
Ahiravan, with intention to capture both Ram and Lakshmana, entered the fortress by assuming the form of Vibhisana and took both of them to patalaloka.
To save his lords from the grip of Ahiravana, hanuman had to blow five lamps in five directions. So Pawanputra, had to assume the form of “Panchmukha”, with Hanuman, Hayagriva, Narashima, Garuda and Varah faces.
