Project ‘Jacquard’ is the name given by Goggle where a new fabric will be designed with touch screen abilities.
The IT giant announced on Friday that it is working with iconic US jeans maker Levi Strauss to launch ‘smart clothing’ concept.
The project is named after a Frenchman who invented a type of loom. A small team of Google called Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) will be handling the project.
“We are enabling interactive textiles,” said Emre Karagozler, a member of ATAP as he showed image of smart fabric on computer screen.
“We do it by weaving conductive threads into fabric.”
The project is aimed at bringing interactive clothing where conductive yarn is connected to tiny circuits, as small as jacket buttons, with miniaturized electronics that uses electronics to recognize touch or swipes.
