A nine-year-old Indian American girl, floored the Obama couple by serving them the ‘Garam Masala’ Quinoa Burger with ‘raita’ and won a chance to dine with the first lady at the White House.
Hailing from Illinois, Shreya Patel was one among the 55 young cooks who participated in the fourth annual “Kids State Dinner”, which was conducted recently,with an aim to create a healthy recipe.
The Obama couple appreciated her efforts and chose the Garam Masala Burger as the winning recipe from Illinois.
And as a token of appreciation she was invited for lunch with Michelle Obama in East Room on July 10.
“I saw my mother and grandmother cook food with an Indian twist since when I was a kid”, she said and it was she and her grandmother who came up with this recipe since both of them loved sandwiches.
Her Quinoa Burger was enhanced with garam masala, cumin, ginger and grated Serrano chilies.
