This is one of the most popularly sung Christian Hymn. Joseph Scriven, an Irish man was the author of this beautiful script. On the eve of his wedding, his fiance died and was so heartbroken that he lived a life helping people. He later moved to Canada and taught in a school,
where he later fell in love with another woman named Eliza Roche, a relative of one of his students.Â
They both decided to marry but once again Joseph was heartbroken because two weeks before their wedding, Eliza died from pneumonia.
He could not digest the fact that Elia was no more in his life so he wrote a letter of comfort titled “What a friend we have in Jesus”.
