we have the answer to both these questions,  read on to find out why.

Why is goddess Lakshmi worshipped on Diwali and not Lord Ram?

Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha and known to bestow upon us wealth, Health, intelligence,  success and prosperity. it is said that when Rama returned from Lanka,  the first thing that he did was carry out a big worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Ganesha so that they bless his Kingdom and all the masses. with health, wealth and prosperity will come happiness and the people of Ayodhya will have a better life.  since that time it has become customary for everybody to clean their houses, light lamps, and carry out the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Ganesha.

Why are Lakshmi and Ganesha Worshipped Together?

Legends have it, that one day Goddess Lakshmi  became very arrogant about her  stature importance in the world.  she said to her husband Lord Vishnu, that she is the only person who is worthy of all the praise and worship. she gives money and wealth to everybody, and only she is empowered to bestow prosperity on people of all the worlds. She went on praising herself and her power, when Lord Vishnu interrupt her to make an Observation.

he says that despite having all the power in the world you are still not complete, for the biggest Joy of a woman’s life is to become a mother. and you don’t have a child, you are incomplete.  on hearing this Goddess Lakshmi feels extremely sad. to seek some help she goes to Maa Parvati, Goddess Parvati have two sons Kartikeya and Ganesha.  she requests Parvati to let her adopt one of her children. Goddess Parvati shows her concerns, she asks Lakshmi that she keeps on moving so often, and both her children constant care and attention  and so how will she manage to have her children. Lakshmi does everything to convince Parvati that she will be a dedicated mother and do her job perfectly.  finally Parvati agrees and let her adopt Ganesha.

on hearing this Goddess Lakshmi feels elated. She bestows upon Ganesha all her prosperity and accomplishments , She promises Parvati that anybody who plays and worship goddess Lakshmi will have to worship Ganesha to seek her blessing. people who do not worship Ganesha and only pray to her will never be blessed by Goddess Lakshmi.
from that day on, in order to please Goddess Lakshmi one has to worship God Ganesha as well. it has since then become a custom to worship Lakshmi and Ganesh are together.
