Ayurveda is an ancient health care tradition that has been practiced since 5000 years in India. The word comes from a Sankrit term ayur(life) and veda(knowledge).
Know some basic facts about Ayurveda as you continue to read below!!
1. Ayurveda isn’t a religion
It is a deep misconception that Ayurveda is a religion. It is a traditional Hindu system of medicine, which is based on the idea of balance in body systems, diets, herbal treatment and yogic breathing.
2. Ayurveda is derived from Atharva Veda
Ayurveda was born in India five to six thousand years ago. It is attributed to the Atharva Veda, which is the fourth Veda of the Hindu holy texts. But this doesn’t mean Ayurveda is religious- it has just taken its roots from the Hindu texts.
3. Three Doshas
The Tridosha Theory, or the presence of three doshas is a very vital theory is Ayurveda. The three dosha are vata, pita and kapha, which are part of us and are characterized by different pairings of elements(ether, water, air, fire and earth). However each person has a dominating dosha, predicting the body type and how to pacify it.
4. How Ayurveda affects you
“How Ayurveda will affect me”, is an important question to ask yourself. Ayurveda will reveal what your body type is and teach you how to eat what is beneficial to that type. Knowing your body type will make you a blissful person and also help the obese lose weight.
5. Ayurveda is totally personal
It may seem strange that there are only 3 Doshas for billions of people and that’s why it’s important to know that Ayurveda acts on a personal level. One has to understand the levels of each Dosha in their body and act accordingly.
6. It demands Dedication
Allotting time for yoga and meditation is just one side of a coin. You probably have to reduce consumption of food that aggravate our dominating dosha, and add food that will pacify it. In order to abide by Ayurveda you need some serious dedication.
7. Its wide spreading
Ayurveda is coming out of the shadows. It has taken its pace and is going beyond the Indian borders, heading westward and will become a trend very soon
