So, you have been a working ninja till few months ago, and then you married and then had kids. You have a whole new set of responsibilities to work on. Earlier it was only you and your career, but now, you have to look after your home- Husband, kids, in-laws (if you stay with them) and your career. You have to prove your mettle both in your home and also at your workplace. With changing times, your responsibilities and pressure also keeps increasing. After you have a kid, it’s very important for you to juggle between the kid and your career. You might occasionally have bouts of guilt for not being able to spend time with your kid as you would have to give equal time for your family and work as well.
Till few years ago, it was a common practice that a woman would take break from her career probably after her marriage or maybe after having a kid. But with changing time, a woman is not only being able to manage her home and kids but also kicking a** at work. They are more productive, multi-tasking and precise.
Tips on smoothly managing Career and Home
Here are few tips that will help you go through this phase smoothly. It will be really tough initially but after few months, you won’t even notice tiny glitches and this will definitely be a smooth ride for you.
1. Be an exceptional employee when you start your career. This gives the impression that you are quite good at juggling tasks and can definitely manage learning new things efficiently. Being a through and stand-put professional from the start will make you the “super-star” talented employee, and would allow many flexibilities when you would need them- during or after your marriage or after having a kid.
2. Prioritizing:

Prioritizing is a great way to achieve that balance that you need for balancing home and career. If you choose career over home priorities then you should let go of the resulting guilt, as that will only make you less-inefficient both at your work place and also at home. But, if you choose your home as your priority, then make your employers know this. If they give you a hard-time especially when you have had to miss office due to personal reasons, then you are better off at a new work-place, who understands your priorities and are comfortable and offer you some flexible timings.
3. Having a support:
You husband, friends, neighbours or in-laws are a great strong support system for you. If you are not able to pick your kid up from school, have a back-up option ready. This way you can focus on your career without having to be stressed up on your domestic life.
4. Know yourself:
This is important to understand your needs and abilities as well. You maybe best in your chosen career, but maybe after having kids, you couldn’t focus as much as you used to. Find a job or a department that suits you perfectly yet gives you ample of time to spend with your little one.
5. Being Organized:
Being organized and setting a proper time for every activity is one of the key factors that help you in juggling and managing both work and home. Set priorities of list of works to be done and try managing them in the time set. Multi-tasking is what would help you ace and also save some of your time even within the set time-frame.
It’s all up to you as to how you manage your home and career, as every woman has her own individual style to manage things. She can easily balance both work and home as she used to earlier with or without few glitches or she may face lots of obstacles and be stressed up with the same. All you need is support- mainly your husband’s. With a little unconditional support you can work magic and can regain the lost confidence which can sometimes happen.
