I feel that the 90s were the best time to be born! You could play outside throughout the day and never be tired to return home. With new games to play each day, consistently, there was not by any means one dull minute! Regardless of which diversion it was, the “denner” was constantly chosen with a ‘pukam’.
Before technology became an integral part of our life, we kids spent the total of our childhoods in the city and in gardens. The noisy ringing of the bell toward the finish of a school day implied recess with friends in the area!
we engaged ourselves regardless of their effortlessness. Never encountering a dull minute, our childhoods were loaded with noteworthy minutes. I wish I could relive my childhood days back!
So, let’s remember some of the amazing Indian outdoor games of the 90’s period that everyone of us has played! Take a stroll down the memory lane!
1)Vish- Amrit
Teenager baar vish ho gaye toh out’ was the rule of this game. The weakest was focused on and discarded first. The denner’s greatest errand was to ensure others didn’t “amrit” the ones he had as of now ‘vish-ed’.
2) Pakadam Pakadai
We all have screamed and shouted for our lives while we ran in our neighbourhood as though something had happened! We had to make sure that the denner does not catch us so all we had to do was run!
3) Staapuu
Beware of the white lines! This is all the game was all about. In abroad the game is called hopscotch, but we Indians made our own version of staapu. These are small boxes with numbers that you had to cross without touching white lines!
4) Unch Neech Ka Paapda
This was one of my favorite games! Staying above or staying on the ground was all that we did! And the denner used to wait for us to make a move to catch us!
5) Doctor Doctor Help Us!
Well, this was a very twisted and funny games played, as the kids entangle themselves and ask the doctor to help us and then run away once he does that! It was fun, right?!
6) Poshampa Bhai Poshampa
This was a really funny riddle made where two kids will stand and make a tunnel for others to passby and recite the entire riddle! And once they are done, the innocent is sent to jail!
The riddle was:
‘Laal Quile Mein Kya Hua
Sau Rupaye Ki Ghadi Churayi
Ab Toh Jel Mein Jana Padega
Jail Ki Roti Khani Padegi
Jail Ka Pani Peena Padega
Ab Toh Jail Mein Jana Padega
It was really an amazing time and I will never forget my 90’s!
