Those 4-5 days are annoying and hard for a woman through out world, but we in india make it especially harrowing and more too difficult for her by imposing many ‘rules and regulations’ in the name of religion, which inturn makes her feel lowly and dirty. There have been many campaigns recently to try changing elder’s views on periods and their behaviour towards women who menstruate.
2. Not washing hairs for initial 2 days
3. Watering Plants not allowed
4. Ice consumption isn’t allowed
7. Barred from entering into Kitchens
8. Barred from entering into any religious places
9. Not having sex during menstruation
10. Living in seclusion while menstruating- no touching elders, especially men- brothers or fathers; Not even allowed to sleep on the same bed as her husband, or touching any of clothes- which if accidentally touched, should be washed after the end of periods
11. Celebrating the very first period while subsequent periods are frowned upon and looked as filthy and impure.
12. Having separate clothes, utensils, pillows and bedsheets for her use
