The Bollywood industry mourns the loss of veteran actor and producer Shashi Kapoor. He was known as the Bollywood’s finest actors as he had a beautiful charm and his acting skills in some of the films like “ Deewar” and “Kabhi Kabhie” were some of the greatest films of the era. His partnership with Amitabh Bachchan was simply amazing and people loved watching their films and the duo’s performance together ended up in the box office going full and the audience whistling and applauding their “jodi.” It is sad to announce that this famous actor died at the age of 79 in Mumbai’s Kolikabein Ambani Hospital on Monday around 5.20pm.
“Yes he has passed away. He had kidney problem since several years. He was on dialysis for several years,” his nephew, actor Randhir Kapoor, told Press Trust of India. The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, he said.
I am sure many of you know that Shashi Kapoor belonged to the “Kapoor” family and he was the youngest brothers among Raj and Shammi who were elder to him and they have also passed away, thereby ending the “Kapoor” era behind. These three brothers were Bollywood’s No. 1 actors during that time and now it seems like Bollywood would just cherish them as a memory.
Apparently, Shashi was not keeping well for a long time and he was having kidney problems earlier as well. Immediately after his nephew confirmed the news of his death, many Bollywood celebrities were seen visiting the hospital to pay condolences to him. Many also took to twitter to express their grief and mourned the loss of the actor.
Shashi Kapoor was born on March 18th 1938 and since then his love for theatre and acting has been impeccable as he started acting in the age of four in various plays directed by his father Prithviraj Kapoor and then in the late 40’s he began performing as a child artist. I am sure many of you remember the film “Aag” and “Awaara” where he was seen playing the younger version of “Raj Kapoor”. Then during the beginning of 1950’s Shashi worked as an assisting director and he produced films as well.
He wowed the Indian cinema industry with his debut in the film “ Dharmputra” in 1961 and since then he has been the Bollywood’s favorite actor and he worked in more than 116 films in the period of 70’s and the 80’s.
Shashi’s love for theatre was something that many of you don’t know. That’s where he met the “love of his life” Jennifer Kendal who also worked in plays. One of the major dreams the actor had was to build a place for performing arts. His dream was fulfilled when the Prithvi Theatres was built in the year 1978.
His journey in the Indian cinema industry has been an amazing one and he is also known as the “ Bollywood Legends” who gave meaning and entertainment to the Hindi cinema industry.
We sadly mourn the demise of this great actor and pray for his soul to rest in peace.
The funeral will be held today morning where many celebs will pay visit to his grave.
