Indian TV serials almost always bank on the popularity of the stars- most commonly on the popularity of the female protagonists- who become much more popular than their counter part male protagonists, most commonly because of the self-sacrificing, ideal and family-before-self attitude that is commonly associated with the identity of the Indian women.
So, our Indian TV creative team started banking on this popularity of the female leads, by introducing leaps of not lesser than 18 years, where we see the same actress portraying the role of the daughters of the female lead playing a parallel lead along with the original character, but as an entirely different person- the one who is completely opposite to the original character they played.
Here is a list of famous shows, where we see the actresses play their own daughters on-screen.
1. Drashti Dhami in Madhubala and Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani:
Drashti Dhami played her own daughter in her previous show, Madhubala, which was loved by everyone; She will be doing the same in her current show Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani.
2. Narayani Shastri in Piya Ka Ghar:
Narayani portrayed the role of Rimjhim in show Piya Ka Ghar, and also her grown up daughter- two characters with 2 strikingly different personalities- Rimjhim was the loving, sacrificing female, while her daughter Megha was the exact opposite.
3. Reena Kapoor in Who Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki :
Reena Kapoor, the protagonist of Who Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki made it a popular trend to play not double, but a triple role- She played not one but three roles in her show: the main protagonist Rani Mittal, then her own daughter Pari and also Pari’s adopted daughter Rani in the show.
