It’s a cruel world. Things are never fair. We have been taught that good always prevails. Someday, things will get all right. We all get our happy endings- & if we haven’t had our happy ending yet, it’s not the end- Picture abhi baaki hai. . . Mere Dosto!
But, the reality is entirely different! There are no happy endings- there is only end! We live in a cruel world where love- is considered a taboo; just like sex and periods- Which are all just plain normal; but the society would never let it be normal.
Here are a series of narrative photography on the theme “Coming Out” which is about a lebian couple coming out in open in India.
It’s a free world
Maitreyi, comes out of the door first time-
Alpana, was scared and anxious while coming out of the squeaky closet
Coming out of a closet – Alpana was anxious but Maitreyi’s calm demeanor gave her hope
They were in Love, and had come out finally- with no going back!
They were comfortable
Their love changed the forest- the gloomy forest became lively
They went on- with hopes filled in their heart
With the changing atmosphere of the forest, and the growing comfort- they decided to play hide & seek-
Their smiles and their happiness grew many-folds
It was the most happiest they have ever been. . .
They walked and played. . .
But then, a thorn penetrated into her foot
The girls embracing each other-
Parivala, very much like Maitreyi and Alpana had found freedom in the very same forest a few days ago. So when she saw the girls embrace each other, her heart was overcome with joy. She observed them from a distance and was glad that they had come out…
Days only strengthened their love and hope
But. . . the demons heard their laugh
Because, the only love allowed was – a woman’s and a man’s- hence these girls would have to pay for their sins.
They were to be punished- and hence dragged mercilessly
Love- isn’t that something to be revered and spoken out; why should love be punished?
They were shoved back in the closet
There was no one to help them- they were together- BUT alone!
They embraced one last time- as they knew their fate
They remembered the moments spent together as the flames spread and engulfed the closet
The one who wept for them was Parivala – she sobbed as she sank on the damp mud!
Why tell tales of a happy ending when we all know there is none! Why give hope for those who know there is no hope! Why talk of love, when love is bound by society, caste, creed, religion, sexual orientation?
