‘Wat Pariwat’ is an unusual Buddhist temple in Bangkok that has a golden effigy of David Beckham himself built into its altar.

It is believed that a diehard fan of the famous footballer has placed his sculpture in Bangkok’s Pariwat temple in a spot normally reserved for minor deities.

The head monk at the temple is a Manchester United supporter and hence he included the image among other images, resulting in debate among the monks.

The 0.3 meter high statue, in glimmering gold stands at the foot of the main Buddha statue along with 100 other statues. On observing carefully, you will see that Beckham is wearing a Man U Shirt with a “Sharp” logo.

The temple remains open whole day on ‘wan phra’ days which are Buddhist holy days and coincides with the phases of the moon. On other days it is closed, but can be opened on request.

The inside of this temple has some stunning images high up on the walls and ceiling.

The images in the shrine also include statues of two former Thai prime minister.

Even these two inclusions were not spared from being controversial.
