Conflicts between the mind, control on work situation and the emotional response at the work place is not something new. Everyone faces this situation, almost every day and yet we all emerge out of it. . gradually with emotional aggressiveness and physical harm and most importantly mental stress- stress which we later on relieve on our family, friends and parents.
Why is it, that most of the times, we try relieving the stress only on our parents or spouses, and not try letting it go? Is taking it all out on our family the only way to de-stress? No, right? But then why do it? Because it is easier? Or because they are our soft targets and don’t answer back, understanding the high stress levels that we all face?
Here we all de-code the simplest ways to de-stress at work. Do follow these steps regularly and see the ultimate change in your attitude and outlook on life. Baby steps is more important than taking a huge leap.
1. Smile:
Smile is the most important accessory- accessory that makes one feel confident, beautiful and positive. Keep smiling always and remember, most of the conflicts can be solved, with only a smile.
2. Wash you face:
When ever you feel stressed, or feel there is a lot going on, just go and wash your face and hands and brush your hair. Trust us, one of the many magical properties of water, will make you feel immediately refreshed and is reinvigorating and you will be ready to take on the challenge head on. . Rather it gives you the feeling of a fresh start.
3. Speak to a loved one:
Speaking to an old friend, parents, siblings or a loved one will definitely help you feel recharged. It gives you a better outlook to carry on with your work.
4. Stretch:
Most of the times, the stress is due to sitting at one place for long. So go, move your body- walk, job, use stairs instead of elevator, go to the water dispenser to get water instead of asking the office boy to get one, things that require moving- go just do them. BUT, make sure you don’t keep moving every 5 minutes or are never seen at your work station. Move, but once every 2 hours.
5. Go Out for a walk:
Go out for a walk during break times instead of sitting at your desk or staying indoors, go out- get some fresh air (avoid polluted air. . . please)
6. Dress Well:
Rule no. 1 in any corporate world is to dress best- dress to impress. But that doesn’t mean you dress overly. Be minimalistic, yet professional enough. Being properly dressed is also a way to boost your confidence and morale at work. You feel good about yourself when you are properly dressed. So, go out and flaunt your professional side.
7. Listening Music:
Listening music during office hours is a big NO. But, you can definitely listen to it during your break times and it is a huge step to de-stress your self
8. Reading:
Again one of the best de-stressor, reading, just like music during office hours is not something you should do; but it is a must during your break times, if you want to de-stress alone- away from people gossiping. Reading has its many benefits- it is not something that is limited- read away, choose anything that interests you- news papers, books, comics, fiction, philosophy, etc.,
9. Deep Breath:
Sometimes, all you need is a good deep breath and an optimistic voice, at the back of your head whispering “It’s OK! You will get through this”
10. Comfort Food:
Most of the times, all you need is the comfort of comfort food. But, be warned, comfort food only in limit is comforting. Eat all you want- samosa, pizza, cheese pasta, choco chip cookies, etc., but only in limits.
11. Stay Away from Energy Snatchers:
Most of our energies are drained by listening to energy snatchers- people who keep complaining about everything and anything to everyone and keep gossiping. . . Always remember- Stay away from people who gossip, and more importantly stay away from people who complain. You need a positive atmosphere around you when stressed, so always try to be alone while de-stressing and keep you mind away from things that negate the positive energy.
