In keeping in view the spirit of Diwali and the huge Indian diaspora, the transport authority in Singapore is celebrating the festival of lights in a unique way- by launching a special Diwali themed Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) in it’s North East line, which has a station, Little India.
The theme train is an attempt to make people experience the part of the stunning decorations at Little India right inside the MRT. A series of pictures were shared on the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) Facebook page, where we can see the coaches have been decorated with colourful rangolis, diyas, festoons and other decorations.
The décor is done similar to the decorations that are always done in Little India during Diwali. Singapore’s Little India, has quite a dense population of Indian diaspora with many Indian stores and restaurants.
The MRTs have a graceful elements in the decoration, such as the intricate Indian peacocks, lotuses and other intricate motifs.
With the strict ban on crackers due to air and sound pollution, many people have appreciated this step to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali.
