Domestic Violence, doesn’t it ring a bell? Isn’t domestic violence, an abuse towards your spouse within home? We would especially like to stress the word, “spouse” as domestic violence is not gender specific. Yes, women are generally subjected to abuse in this patriarchal society, but things are not the same. Although there are still crimes against women the percentages of crime against men by women are at an even higher percentage; Shocking, isn’t ? Don’t be. At-least not yet. Wait till you read India’s rank in domestic abuse against husbands.
India ranks 3rd globally. Now, this is definitely astonishing as this is not something expected in this patriarchal society. But, wait, what did you expect? That India would rank somewhere towards the end? Nah! With changing times, the women have changed too, they indeed are resorting to violence against their husbands- and the reasons are as silly as you can imagine.
According to “few” men, their wives beat them because they went to an office party without them, or they didn’t go to shopping, and few even cited reasons like checking their wife’s phones or e-mail and the like.
There also have been some very disturbing instances, where the wife falsely accuses her husband and in-laws of harassment and violence and with our society always ready to blame the in-laws at the drop of the pin, make the innocent family suffer quite badly at the hands of the cops and Indian Judiciary System.
According to a recent study by the UN, India ranks 3rd just behind the UK, which secured 2nd at violating husbands and with an astonishing 66% Egypt stood first.
When are we going to open our minds and equate both men and women? We all fight for equality, but when it comes to things like these, why do we always jump into conclusions that a woman is always a victim? We do have to open our eyes and realize the sad truth that men are also victims.
