It takes no discussionsor debatesto safely say that, this is true era of plastic. From Cellphones to Car Body, from the water bottle to condom everything is a gift due to the discovery of Plastic. This alternative material has introduced the world, asolution tonumerous problems. Mainly, issues related to transportation, longevity, and production costs. In all sense it is quite affordable than glass.
John Wesley Hyatt concocted Celluloid, the first successful plastic, in the year 1869. Made from a shredded tissue paper and then mixed with nitric and sulfuric acids.
Leo Baekeland created the first all-synthetic polymer in 1907. He was also the first to call this new substance “plastic.” Bakelite was used to make all manner of things, including knobs, brackets, insulation for electric cables, radios, cups, buttons, cameras, telephones, false gums, and silverware handles. I think from that day onwards a new revolution happen on the history of material Science.
Plastic containers can be virtually everywhere found everywhere you go on the planet. Plastic containers are made from recycled waste materials. Recycling is the most effective method adopted by almost all companies manufacturing plastic containers. A majority of both industrial packaging and domestic packaging is done using plastics. This is because, plastic containers are non-biodegradable; governments around the world have enacted stringent rules on the use and disposal of plastic materials.
Basically from small beads of a plastic we mold it to give a different shape. Well then,What is this molding! Plastic molding is the process of shaping plastic using a rigid frame or mold. The technique allows for the creation of objects of all shapes and sizes with huge design flexibility for both simple and highly complex design
Here some different types of molding you can see
• Extrusion Blow Molding
• Injection Blow Molding
• Stretch Blow Molding
• Injection Molding
• Multi-Layer Bottles – Co-Extrusion
By following this process we can able to make a plastic container. But question is what will be scenario of the outburst of plastic usage? What about its effect on environment?
Yes! it is making a large impression on nature. Plastic pollution can unfavorably affect lands, waterways and oceans. Living organisms, particularly marine animals, can also be affected through entanglement, direct ingestion of plastic waste, or through exposure to chemicals within plastics that cause interruptions in biological functions.
The indiscriminate use of plastic bags poses huge threat to the environment and poses serious health hazards for life on the earth. The main problems with plastic bags are they are non-biodegradable, they choke drains and sewers, and when burnt, they emit poisonous gases. Plastic bags form a major part of Delhi’s garbage heaps, most of which are disposed of into the Yamuna.
Indian laws on plastic use notwithstanding, approximately 1.2 million tons of plastic are recycled in Delhi per year, 90 percent of which is recycled illegally.
By looking into this problem the government has put a complete ban on the use of any type of plastic. The Indian laws on plastic use are covered under the Environment Protection Act, 1986, which has provisions for punishing the offender with five years of imprisonment or fine up to Rs.1 lakh or both.
Usage of something is good but control is also important in every aspect. From past few years we understood that, how a revolutionary element become a serious devil to the society.
As an alternative in India a “Jute Trend” has started .Which is much believed to be a successful replacement of that devil. Stepping towards polymer-free world hopefully find a proper implementation to keep our world more healthy.
