The fossilized skeleton of a 170 million-year-old Jurassic predator belonging to class ichthyosaurs was discovered on the Isle of Skye in 1966 and it has been unveiled in Edinburgh.
The fossilsed skeleton will be studied by Paleontologists 50 years after it’s discovery.
They grew to about 4m in length and had long, pointed heads filled with hundreds of cone-shaped teeth, which was helpful in feeding fishes and squids.
The Lochs Monster is one of the only most complete skeleton of a sea-living reptile from the “Age of Dinosaurs” that has ever been found in Scotland, with Skye being one of the few places where fossils from Middle Jurassic Period can be found.
