September 16 is declared as Global Female Condom Day. Birth control, also known as contraception and fertility control are methods or devices used to prevent pregnancy and various Sexually Transmitted Diseases. There are various methods of contraception used by women and men. Most commonly used type of contraception used is that of barrier method of contraception, in which a condom is the most basic and common and most important type of contraception used by men. But what most women are not aware of is that there are female condoms available as well. There have been many reports ‘reports’ that men aren’t too keen on condoms, so there has been a ‘return’ of female condoms that allows women to use the protection instead of men.
What are Female Condoms?
Female condoms are made from thin, soft plastic called polyurethane and are worn inside the vagina to prevent semen getting to the womb when used correctly during vaginal sex, they help to protect against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Condoms are the only contraception that protect against pregnancy and STIs and need to be stored in places that aren’t too hot or too cold, and away from sharp or rough surfaces that could tear them or wear them away.Always buy condoms that have the CE mark on the packet. This means they’ve been tested to European safety standards. A female condom can get pushed too far into the vagina, but it’s easy to remove. Do not use a female condom more than once. If you have sex again, use a new female condom.
A portion of the condom is inserted into the vagina before intercourse to prevent sperm from entering the uterus. The female condom also reduces the risk of STDs. Female condoms are not that preferable because many people complained of noise during penetration and decreased quality of sex when the woman uses this condom. Like male condoms, female condoms are also a single use only.
