A 14-year-old Indian boy has committed suicide by falling victim to a horrible global Blue Whale death challenge, according to the reports.
Blue Whale death challenge is an online fatal game which encourages children to commit suicide.
Reports said that 14-year-old boy Manpreet Sahas from Mumbai committed suicide on Thursday by jumping from the seventh floor of a building. “The only thing you’d be left with is a picture of me,” wrote Manpreet before committing suicide.
He also clicked a photograph right before jumping of his legs and captioned it, “Soon the only thing you would be left with is a picture of me”.
According to the police, Manpreet was addicted to gaming.
What is the challenge?
The Blue Whale Death challenge is an online trend started on Facebook, which assigns various tasks for the children to perform. These tasks includes getting up at unusual hours, watching horror movies and causing harm to yourself.
The tasks starts to get more extreme as the game progresses and at the end results into suicide.
The challenge came into light when a Russian girl posted a picture of a whale on Instagram before jumping from the 14-storey building.
Even though the creator of the challenge has been arrested by the Russian police, various organizations are working on awareness programs for the parents as well as children and telling them to stay away from such challenges.
According to the accused, the children who had fallen prey to the challenge are “biological waste” in the society and he was trying to clean it.
A report published in Hindustan Times, quoting cybercrime expert Vijay Ram Mukhi, said that the Indian servers are unable to locate the content of the Blue Whale death challenge as they are circulated in Russian or the Chinese languages.
