Vande-Mataram Song

Song 6: Vande Mataram

We have had “Vande Mataram” in many variations since it was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s novel Anandamath, written in the year 1882. It literally translates to “I Praise Thee, Mother”. In 1950, the song’s first two verses were given the official status of the “national song” of the Republic of India, distinct from the national anthem of India, Jana GanaMana.
