In our previous article, we have enlightened you with the last year’s cleanest city of India. Well, the ministry has released the detailed list of Swachh Suvekshan Survey 2017 which clearly shows that Mysore has been dropped down to the fifth position and the crown went to Indore. The city has been chosen as the cleanest city among 434 cities. This means that this year’s India’s Cleanest City title goes to Indore. The Urban Development Minister, Venkaiah Naidu has announced this list yesterday.
According to the government survey of the year 2017, the top three cleanest cities of India include Indore in Madhya Pradesh, followed by Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh again, and then Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
There is a list of dirtiest cities of India also which concludes that Gonda in Uttar Pradesh has lost the battle very badly. Gonda is being followed by Bhusawal in Maharashtra and Bagaha in Bihar.
This year’s criteria for ranking included 45% marks for opening up new defecation centers, waste management (which includes sweeping, collection, transportation, and the dumping or processing of the collected garbage), and awareness regarding garbage disposal. Another 30% of marks was dependent on the citizen feedback and rest of the 25% of marks recorded after field inspection. The survey includes the feedback of 18 Lac citizens of the participating cities.
Though a few of the cities has really worked well on the cleanliness factor but a number of them had a disappointing verdict. UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, and surprisingly Kerala needs to work on the cleanliness of their cities. On the other hand, there are a few states which appeared as a surprising package. These surprising packages include states like Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. Also, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh has carved their success stories beautifully.
The cleanest city of India, Indore has scored 1808 on the cleanliness meter, Bhopal has got 1800, and Vishakhapatnam (or Vizag) received 1797.
