When all of us were waiting with bated breath for the latest model trains to start with a new promise that these trains are definitely going to change the way we travel- which the government was able to provide- but seeing the condition of Mahamana Express, we should ask ourselves this question- “Do we really DESERVE these futuristic and well maintained trains?” If answered honestly- then the answer is No! When we are not able to keep our own surroundings clean; then forget about keeping the trains clean- As in with the mentality that people have- “We travel for a limited time, then who cares how we keep the train surroundings?”
Dainik Bhaskar’s (Leading News Paper) team clicked some pictures of the train when it reached Varanasi for the third time. And this is what they found:
– The floors of every coach – from AC to general – were littered badly.
– The wash basins were full of dirty water.
– The bottle stands were broken, and empty bottles were left on the seats.
And the Railway Police Force (RPF) examines the damaged things, and also listed them for maintenance.
See for yourself and then decide whether we deserve it or is it high time that we start caring for surroundings- including public places and public transport!
1. Wash Basins with dirty Water clogged
2. Floors and Doors, Walls littered badly
3. Left Overs left under the seats
4. Empty water bottles and wrappers left on seats
5. Food covers left on seats
6. Used News papers left for cleaners to clean
7. Littering below the seat
8. Tea-cups and newspapers in the trains thrown casually
9. Dirty Wrapper thrown in the wash basin
10. Rubbish thrown on floors
11. Reading light panel lying broken
12. Bathroom attachments broken
13. Leaking water, broken taps
14. RPF Jawan making note of all things vandalized to be cleaned and repaired.
If this is the way passengers behave in trains- even in the modern trains; then yes- we will always be seen as backward and developing and uncivilized! This is definitely the bitter truth that we all have to accept at this point of time especially when the government is trying for many developments and it is we, who is hindering the growth and then screaming questions like – “What is the government doing for development?”! It’s time that we stop screaming and start doing!
