Mothers sacrifices are underrated. They are loved- more than we love ourselves. We can never hear a word against them, but that doesn’t stop us from being annoyed at them. We cannot hear anyone insulting them, but that doesn’t stop us from not screaming at them when we are irritated. These marvellous creation of God, with a superhuman patience and endurance deserve all happiness, but they are happy in only the little things that we do for them- cook a surprise dinner for them or maybe take them out to their favourite shopping store or a restaurant or maybe wake them up with a tea or just hug them every morning.
Mothers do not need anything exotic to make them happy- their happiness lies in little things that we do to appreciate them in our lives.
Taking forward this thought is Star India, who in collaboration with BCCI, Board of Control for Cricket in India in their #NayiSoch, and for the first time ever, cricketers have sported their mother’s names on their jersey instead of their dad’s surname that they usually sport. This move has stuck a deep chord with all sections of society as mother’s have an equal, if not more hand in shaping us as a person.
There have been many advertisements on Star India channels, where the cricketers were seen sported their mother’s names and few wondered if this would be seen in matches as well; but then Indian cricketers went ahead and pleasantly surprised everyone by sporting the names of their moms on the 5th India vs. New Zealand ODI on October 29, 2016.
India, which according to the UN Human Development Report ranks 130 out of the 155 nations in gender equality needs such powerful and emotive moments, which will help them realize the role a woman plays in their lives- be it in the form of a mother, sister, wife or a daughter.
“At Star, women have always been at the forefront of everything we do. This time around both BCCI and Star have put their strength together to highlight the cause of women in India. The Indian cricketers sporting their mothers’ names make for a powerful and emotive statement and we are thankful to BCCI and the Indian Cricket team for partnering with us on this idea. It will support the voice of the emerging Indian woman and inspire millions to acknowledge and celebrate the identity and role of women in India, “ said Star India Chairman and CEO, Uday Shankar.
