Hindi movie industry’s one of the leading male actor Varun Dhawan has tweeted an apology for his remark on nepotism at the recently concluded International Indian Film Awards at New York. The apology has come after a backlash Dhawan and Karan Johar received after making fun of Kangana Ranaut, who started the debate of nepotism in the industry, at her absence.
I express my apology and regret .. I am extremely sorry if I have offended or hurt anyone with that act..

While hosting the show along Karan Johar Saif Ali Khan had joked about Varun Dhawan, when he joined the duo on stage and said that he could make big in the industry because of his papa, referring to David Dhawan. Varun Dhawan, who also won the Best Comic Role award for his work in Dishoom, replied to Saif he is in the industry because of your mummy, Sharmila Tagore.

Producer, Director and actor Karan Johar then quickly added that he is in film because of his papa, Yash Johar. The three then in unison said, “Nepotism Rocks”.
The trio had to face a strong backlash on the social media about their behavior towards Kangana Ranaut, who had actually triggered the debate in Karan Johar’s popular show Koffee With Karan, by calling him a “flag-bearer of nepotism” in the industry.
The reactions said that it was quite unfair joking about Kangana at her absence and their jokes was highly unfunny.
Karan Johar, too, has expressed his thoughts over the debate while speaking exclusively to NDTV and said that he is regretful for his comments and he will not bring the forward again and closing it for once and all.
