Have you ever heard a foreigner begging in India?! I am sure not and there is proof where a tourist is seen begging for alms just outside a temple in Tamil Nadu! You must be wondering what made this guy beg and where did all his money go?!
Well, what happened was that a Russian youth who is visiting Tamil Nadu was compelled to look for charity at a temple in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. The 24-year-old man chose to look for aid after he could not withdraw money as his ATM card got blocked, said the police. The tourist’s name was Evangelin and he came to Kumarakottam Sri Subramanya Swami temple and sat at the entryway with his knapsack and asked for alms with the help of his cap!

The people who were passing by were amazed to see a nonnative asking for money and cautioned the police, an officer stated, adding he was taken to police headquarters where they checked his travel archives.
The tourist told police that if all else fails he looked for contributions since he was left with no cash. Police said they gave him some cash and requested him to go Chennai and contact Russian department authorities for any other assistance.
To his surprise, later ExternalAffairs Minister Sushma Swaraj came to his rescue as she was ready to help the Russian national, who was begging for any money sitting outside the temple!

“Evangelin — Your country Russia is our time tested friend. My officials in Chennai will provide you all help,” Swaraj tweeted late on Tuesday night following a media report about 24-year-old A. Evangelin begging at a temple in Kancheepuram.
It is good to see helping hands in our country, and I feel proud that people do think and care about other fellow beings!
