Known as fries in the US and as chips in the UK, French fries are crispy, and are a part of lunch or dinner and are accompanied by comfort food, and most of the times, they are eaten by themselves as a snack. Fries are generally salted and are served with ketchup; but we also see various variants in which they are toppled with condiments or toppings, including mayonnaise, peri peri, pepper or other local specialties.
When we try making these fries at home, they tend to get soggy literally within minutes and most of the time, they are not crispy. So, how to get that perfect plate of fries at home?
Just follow these simple steps and enjoy a plate of heavenly and delicious French fries.
1.Cut thin slices of potatoes. ½ to 1.4 inch cut potato slices are the best for a crispy fry.
2.Either soak or steam the cut fries before frying them. Soak in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove the starch and excess water or steam them to achieve the same.
3.Make sure you dry the cut steaks properly. Make sure you use clean muslin or a cotton cloth or a towel/tissue. Dry for about 2-3 times to remove all the traces of moisture.
4.Air-dry for 10 minutes. Don’t forget this step as it is essential in attaining the plate with perfect crispiness.
5.Deep fry the steaks. Make sure the oil is hot enough for the steaks to be fried properly. Fry, remove excess oil, and put all the fries on a towel to let the tissue soak all the excess oil.
6.Season with the required condiments- red chilli flakes, pepper, minced garlic, salt and you can also experiment with herbs.
Tada! A plate of fries, with perfect crispiness is ready to be savoured!
