Sri Sai ram college in Chennai is considered to be a premier institute of engineering. It’s also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is one of the top 10 colleges in the state.
Recently there was this photograph of the General Rules for Women/Girls that all the female students were to follow without fail. This is the photo that went viral.
A student who graduated from the college just two months ago said: “What is given in the circular is only a trailer. The main picture can be seen in the general rules document they supply during orientation.”
Alumni of the college do positively insist that the college has controversial rules.A 2004-2008 batch student of the college said: “This is an old circular. The student who put it up on the net was from my batch. But, yes all these rules are followed even now. There were sudden checks as well. Current batch students also got similar rules, but not this bad, I suppose.”
“These rules are followed unofficially. I don’t remember this being in printed format when I was there. But yes they followed them rigorously. There were ‘floor supervisors’ who enforced these rules and punishments were severe. Non-teaching staffs particularly one guy who I don’t want to name created a lot of trouble during my time,” a 2009-2013 batch student said.
But when HuffPost India, contacted the Sri Sai Ram Engineering College Management, K Maran, a professor of accounting at the institute,
who handled media queries on behalf of the institute, said he was aware of such a photo and was outraged. “Somebody has copy-pasted our college’s name on some random list of restrictions. We have never issued any circular like that. This is done by some miscreants who want to spoil our name in public. There is no college seal, there is no college letterhead. We have forwarded a complaint to cyber-crime and we will take action soon.”
