Priyanka Chopra is having her moment in the life. In a recent interview with Elle, she says “I’m not really crossing over, it’s not like I’m leaving Indian films; I intend to do that simultaneously. I intend on straddling both continents and going wherever my work takes me. Creative people shouldn’t be stopped by barriers of language and borders.”
Priyanka regularly commutes between India and the U.S. these days; she says “Scheduling is a bitch; sleep is for the weak. I sleep on planes, in the car, whenever I get some hours.”
But she wouldn’t have it any other way. “The only thing that makes someone successful is the ability to work hard, and not be afraid to not have enough sleep or enough anything—just to keep going. I come from a country that taught me that. I’ve been a public person for half my life. You come to terms with the fact that no one is indispensable. I realized that very young in my life.”
Speaking about her role in Quantico, she says “I was apprehensive because I’m Indian—not Indian-American. And I didn’t know what that would mean…When you put your work out there, you’re apprehensive about how it will be received. So getting that acceptance, getting a People’s Choice Award, that was validation that I must be doing something right. And that’s what America’s about, right? People coming from all over the world and being whoever they want to be. Alex Parrish is such a woman of today…unapologetic. That’s what feminism stands for, right? To be able to be independent no matter who you are. Men are never questioned. Why should women be?” She adds, “I like the fierceness with which she lives her life.”
