Cell phones are one of the important things that one cannot live without. It is with us almost every time- from the time we wake up to the time we sleep; even while sleeping, we tend to have the phones beside our pillow. We start feeling empty without our phones in our hands and are almost at the verge of becoming an appendage. But, did you know the radiation that a cell phone gives causes cancer?

The radiation from cell phones are called electro magnetic radiation. Which are both- ionizing (high frequency and high energy like x-rays, cosmic rays, etc.) and non-ionizing (low frequency and low energy  like radio frequency, power frequency, etc.)

Phones transmit non-ionizing radiations from their antennas, and this is how the wireless calls and WiFi get connected- unfortunately, body tissues absorb this energy. The radiation gets amplified during phone calls, but the exposure is long term. According to a study published in 2009, the pelvic bone mineral density decreased on the side of the pelvis where the cell was bound for 15 hours a day for 6 years. In one unusual case, a woman with no markers for cancer,  was affected with multi-focal breast cancer. Specialists connected the dots, and pattern and outlined the shape of her cell phone, which baffled them, it was only when the woman explained that she tucks her phone inside her bra, things became clear.

How to protect yourself from high-radiating phones:
Before buying your new phone, check out their radiation indexing in the reviews. If their index is higher or close to 1.6. then do not buy that phone at all.

Children are more susceptible to radiation, and this radiation causes behavioural and emotional problems, various social issues, learning difficulties.

Try reducing your usage-  Turn off your phone when you are not using it.

Try to avoid making or speaking when the reception is bad. The weaker the connection, the more power your phone is using which makes the radiation higher than the normal.

Don’t carry your phone on your body. Keep a few layer of clothing between you and your phones. For better and safer use, try using a shielded headsets.

Using cell phones is not an option, it is a necessity. You can not do without it- hence staying on a safer zone is a precautionary measure you need to adapt.
