There is a trend routing up these days, a trend of standing against the society. And, one of the popular weapons of these social justice warriors is feminism. There are many speculations surfacing with the definition of feminism. What people think being a feminist means that being a lesbian. People often conclude it as being a feminist means you hate all men or a feminist thinks that women are far superior to the men. These are only a few examples of those speculations. Let us cut this short by telling you that this is not what feminism is about.
True Definition of Feminism
Feminism has a simple definition of women having equal rights as of men. The rights which give them the power of social and political movements and a same platform to present their ideologies to the world. The definition of feminism conveys that women should have the equal rights as of men to get a proper education and the equal opportunities for the employment. Feminism is a summarized word for women rights which includes a right to vote, a right to have an equal pay, a right to get an education like men, a right which gives her equal importance in a married relationship. Feminism also includes a right for a woman to own a property, to have equal rights in the ancestral belongings, a right which gives a woman power to speak against sexual abuse, domestic violence, and rape to maintain her dignity and integrity. That is what feminism is about.
Things Which Are Not Part of Feminism
1. No Superiority Feeling
A true feminist doesn’t feel like being powerful amongst the genders. There is no superior feeling which comes with this word.
2. Not Necessarily A Lesbian
Being a feminist doesn’t make you a homosexual until you are one. Attempting to receive an equal treatment as of men do, don’t make anyone a homosexual.
3. A Married Woman Can’t Be A Feminist
A married woman is having every right to express herself and have her own point of views which might not reflect her husband’s ideologies. And yes, that means a married woman can be a feminist.
4. A Feminist Hate All Men
Feminist doesn’t hate all men. They might not like your ideology of men being the superior entity, besides that, a feminist has nothing to do with hating men.
The list of speculations about the definition of feminism is something which is an on-going topic. But, one needs to understand what actually defines a feminist and it is not what people talk about. It is about ‘having equal rights only’.
