Significance of Kumbh in Hinduism

Kumbh Mela is one of the sanctified festivals of India and according to the scholars when Gods and demons were having fight over the nectar then Lord Vishnu flew away with the pot of nectar trickling few drops of nectar at four different places and it is there that we celebrate Kumbh-melas- Haridwar, Nashik, Ujjain and Prayag.

The celebration depends on the position of Jupiter and the sun.

When the Sun is in Aries and Jupiter in Aquarius, it is celebrated in Haridwar.
