All SpiceJet flights grounded - Fuel supply stopped by Oil Companies

Country’s second largest budget carrier Spice Jet has been grounded on Wednesday due to oil companies stopped jet oil supply.

Government asked airport operators and fuel suppliers to consider giving more time to pay the bills since SpiceJet is in loss making state.

Shares of the company fell in the morning trade hour today (Wednesday November 17 2014)

Since morning not even a single flight has taken off because of issues with the oil companies, according to PTI.

State-run oil marketing firms not yet decided for jet fuel supply to spice jet airways.

There was huge chaos at airport due to SpiceJet flights cancellation for five hours when jet fuel was not supplied, Flight operations had resumed later in the day.

When contacted on Wednesday, SpiceJet airline spokesperson said operations were likely to be “normal” shortly, PTI reported.

Seeking to avoid another embarrassing airline collapse, the Civil Aviation Ministry said late on Tuesday that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation or DGCA would be asked to allow Spice Jet to sell advance tickets until March 31, 2015.

Spice jet has liability of Rs 2,000 crores and owes money to airports oil companies as well as employees.
