Diwali is just round the corner and it means atleast 2 or 3 times of home cleaning, painting, upgrading décor, shopping, deciding menus almost a month before, planning gifts, parties with cousins and friends, and what not.
Lets take a look at what goes on in Indian homes before Diwali.
1. Things generally starts with your Mum lamenting on fact about the huge number of chores to be done and the fact that you are useless and never help her in any chores.
2. Then comes your wardrobe cleaning/sorting. Discarding any old/torn or damaged clothes then shelves and before you realize you will have already begun cleaning not only your room but also other rooms – all by yourselves, without any initiation from your mom. Afterallits Diwali.
3. Seeing all those ENDLESS and mind blowing Diwali deals online, you end up buying many things for yourselves and your house even though you don’t really need them. But hey- Its Diwali and your house needs to look clean, right?
4. Endless Shopping sprees even though you have bought many things already! New curtains, sofa covers, carpets, and stuff.
5. You keep trying your new Diwali Clothes for numerous times to check those fittings and to see if you are bulging out. And good thing- no one can object! Afterall its Diwali and you CAN do whatever you want to 😉
6. Fancy Diwali decorations, trendy lights, lamps, wall decals and stuff- you will be spoilt for choices and keep looking out for DIY ideas for those fancy things.
7. Your mother and sister will be having loads of discussions on the type of decorations, recipes and yes, most importantly they will be on a lookout for the most beautiful and intricately designed rangoli to grace your entrance, balcony, drawing room, balcony, puja-ghar and whether they will be decorated with flowers or colour or entirely with lamps.
8. Waiting eagerly for the big, fat bonus to come into your bank account. 😉
9. The fun arguments amongst family members about sweets, snacks, decorations, cleaning, fights between brothers and sisters while cleaning . . . This is what we all enjoy- afterall it makes unforgettable memories which we all cling onto for many many years to come.
