India is well known for its culture, traditions and its historical architecture as well. I am sure you all have visited the famous monuments located in different parts of the Indian state, but have you ever wondered or noticed that these monuments aren’t the same anymore?
Yes, if you date back to the time it was made and even before we were born maybe around the early 19th century, monuments were the most spectacular buildings that attracted people’s attention and since then had become a tourist spot for all. But, with the advancements in technology and industrialization, these monuments are losing its charm, its shine or its becoming blackened due to acid rain and much more!
No, it is not recently your lungs, or skin contamination is harming! Those beautiful monuments that we’ve gone by and had picnics around as children does not look the same any longer. We should not begin about the junk we have been abandoning around them.
The delightful monuments constructed hundreds of years back are gradually deteriorating away by the smoke, brown haze and waste materials we are encouraging in our day by day lives.

1) Taj Mahal, Agra
Being one of the seven wonders f the world, Taj Mahal is not the same monument it used to be! It is no longer bright white. Have you ever noticed the outer white marble of the monument is losing its shine and it has turned to a more brownish-yellow shade these years. The reason it is becoming like this is due to the deposition of carbon, burning fuels and biomass is taking place near Taj Mahal resulting in this state.
2) Golden Temple, Amritsar
If you compare the previous picture of the golden temple with the recent one, you can spot a drastic change! You will find that the Golden Temple is losing its gleam. According to the study conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, industrial and vehicular emissions are the cause for the Golden Temple to lose its color and shine.
3) Charminar, Hyderabad
I am sure everyone has visited the famous Charminar in Hyderabad, but have you noticed how dull this monument has become?! It has started to lose its charm. This amazing four-tower building is losing its charm due to pollution past few years! It is said that vehicular pollution is the cause for the granite and lime mortar structure to corrode.
4) Lotus Temple, New Delhi
The color of the Lotus Temple has turned to smoky grey and excessive traffic in Nehru place is causing discoloration. The House of Worship Manager states that the Temple is washed with plain water every three months, but the temple is losing its charm and color the way it was 18 years back.
5) India Gate, New Delhi
The National Capital Territory’s India Gate is the most famous monument where thousands of tourist visit on a daily basis to admire the beauty and have amazing picnics! With the extreme climatic conditions in Delhi, India Gate is affected by thick smog and there’s proof that it still stands In the midst of this city’s alarming air pollution.
