In India, people believe in the term “Evil eyes”, “Buri nazar” or “Drishti” which can result in unpleasant and unprecedented activities. Our elders assume it as ill-effect of an “Evil eyes” arising due to jealousy and envy. They try a lot of traditional methods like smoking the house with burned chilies etc. Apart from this they make sure the negative eyes stay out of their house by hanging protective’s in front of the door.
“Nimbu-Mirchi totka”
It is an ancient Indian tradition of protection which is used to keep home and business safe. Normally seven chilies and one lemon are used to make this string.
“Nazar battu”
A hanging found in front of houses, shops and office is believed to be an effective way of warding off evil.
“Rangoli”
Drawing a colorful pattern in front of the house is regarded as auspicious. It is a way of deflecting the evil eyes and brings luck to the home.
“Mango leaves”
It is common to see a string of mango leaves over the main door entryway in a Hindu family’s house. According to Vaastu Sastra, mango leaves are helpful in removing evil eyes and bringing harmony in one’s house.
“Kavach Yantra”
A thin bronze plated sheet with mantras (sacred words) inscribed on it are believed to be powerful defenders against several unseen and unknown evils
“Windchimes”
It is one of the oldest Feng Shui methods where these are hung up in front of the door and gardens to keep off the evil spirits. It is believed that wind passing through the bells make a tinkling sound which wards off the negative soul.
It is also common to see at back of most of the truck in form of this
I doubt, if anybody stares at truck in an evil eyes!
