Turmeric Milk: Recipe

Turmeric Milk (Haldi wala Doodh) is a very popular medicinal  drunk generally when one has a bad case of cold, cough or is hurt. This helps build the immune system and helps fight any cold or cough that might onset at the start of the winter or rainy months. This magic drink has over the decades been known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

In the making of this milk you can use fresh turmeric or even turmeric powder, although the best benefits come from using the freshly grated turmeric root.

Ingredients
•    An inch piece of turmeric root, grated/ 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
•    300 ml of milk
•    Honey/ sugar to taste
•    Optionally freshly pounded black pepper
Directions:
1.    Bring the grated turmeric and milk to boil for a couple of minutes.  Turn off the heat and allow the turmeric milk mixture to rest covered for a couple of minutes.
2.    After a couple minutes, strain the milk from the turmeric into a glass, stir in sugar / honey and ground black pepper and serve the Turmeric Milk while still hot.
3.    If you are using turmeric powder, you need not strain the milk.
Try having a  the Turmeric Milk just before you go to bed as this will help against the coughs and the uneasy cold allergies while the sleep helps in replenishing our body.
