Owning a make-up is a second nature to us females- But as these things are quite pricey, we hold on to them to use every drop of these amazing things; but did we know that we are susceptible of contracting many infections including meningitis by using old and expired make-up?
A pair of British studies has confirmed what we all know — first, that applying expired cosmetics to your face is risky, and second, that nobody really takes those risks seriously- Do we? Nah, we don’t. There are probably an out-dated mascara or maybe a three year old lipstick right there in our bags, right now as we speak. – I do as well.
The newest research , which carried a survey of 5,000 women by LIB Group in the U.K., found that a fifth of women hold onto their makeup for more than five years, while about 25% of those polled admitted to keeping their mascara for up to one year, instead of cucking them out after 3 months; and 20% said they keep their cleanser for at least one year instead of 6 months; Meanwhile, Many use lipsticks that are more than three years old, which is two years past what’s suggested.
Also, scientists have found that all five of the beauty products tested contained unsafe levels of potentially lethal bacteria — and to the horror, the lip gloss, was still within its use-by date. That lip gloss, along with a blush, foundation, and lipstick, tested positive for the deadly strain of bacteria (enterococcus faecalis), which causes meningitis and septicemia.
Other pathogenic bacteria found in the products included eubacterium, which causes bacterial vaginosis; p. aeromonas, causes gastroenteritis and wound infections; while staphyloccocus epidermidis, which is now an antibiotic-resistant bug; propionibacterium, one of the causes of acne and other skin conditions; and enterobacter, which causes urinary tract and central nervous system infections.
