Asthma
A person with asthma finds difficulty in breathing as well as wheezing and coughing.
Asthmatic people have dry coughs that end with pant.
Postnasal drip
An allergy or cold can trigger a dry or wet cough due to tickles at the nerves end caused by mucus dripping down your throat. The cough can get worse at night due to the uneasiness in the throat.
GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease)
It is the situation when acid from your stomach moves upto your esophagus, resulting in a dry and irregular cough. The cough can get worse while you are lying down or eating.
COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
A chronic cough, which particularly occurs in the morning and it, produces a lot of mucus. This disease includes both chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The main cause of this disease is smoking.
The cough gets better as the day progresses. But other symptoms like wheezing, chest tightness, fatigue and breathing problem will persist throughout the day.
Medication related cough
Dry cough can be seen in a person undergoing a medicine course. It can start a few weeks after intake of the medicines. They can cause cough in about 20% of patients.
Pneumonia
A person with pneumonia will initially have a dry cough which after few days turns to a wet cough with yellow, green and/or red mucus.
