Nobel laureate Albert Einstein and Hollywood star Charlie Chaplin met in 1931. Their first encounter led to a great friendship between the two.

Did you ever thought if a renowned physics genius and a slapstick silent movie star could become best friends? Yet, they did.

We are talking about Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin, the two most famous personalities of history.

Albert Einstein was invited to California to give a lecture at the California Institute of Technology. That was Einstein’s second visit to America in 1930-31.

He was at the peak of his glory with all the newspapers tracking every move of his. Yet, instead of wanting to meet fellow researchers, the only person he wanted to meet was a funny little tramp.

Before heading out to give his lecture in California, Einstein chose to spend some days in New York and travel the city. He was a huge movie buff, so the head of Universal studios, Laemmle invited him to watch a show of ‘ All Quiet on the Western Front’ . Einstein took the opportunity to ask him to introduce him to Charlie Chaplin, whom Laemmle phoned right then.

The first meeting between the great scientist and the comedy star took place at universal studios where the duo first had lunch together.

They hit-off very well right after they met and exchanged great thoughts and shared their curious minds.

Charlie Chaplin invited Einstein and his wife Elsa to his house to which they both had obliged. Chaplin and Einstein stayed in touch after that first meeting.

In the same year, Chaplin had invited Albert to his next premier of the movie ‘City lights’. Einstein was his special guest at the premier. When both of them walked the red carpet sporting a black suit and tie, the crowd went wild.

As the crowd cheered the pair and the press clamored for photos, Albert Einstein looked puzzled and confused.

Looking at him, Chaplin said that they are cheering for both of them.

He said, “They are cheering for both of us. You, because nobody understands you and me because everybody understands me”, to which both Einstein and Charlie Chaplin laughed while looking at their faces.

Take a look at both of them during the movie premier.
