Women in their Mother’s Sarees

Women- don’t inherit money/property; they inherit their Mother’s sarees. This is the age old saying, which although shows how patriarchal the society is; but also shows the emotional bond between a mother and her daughter. “I noticed that nearly every woman’s first sari is one that belongs to her mother,” Meera Ganapathi of Soup told  BuzzFeed.

“There’s a strong sense of pride in inheritance. And in India across socio economic borders, the one thing that all women inherit is saris.”
